2025 JAZZ BAND INFORMATION
Please read all of the information on the Jazz Registration Form.  Each jazz band member must submit the form by November 7 at 10:00 PM.

Recorded auditions are required for all rhythm section players as well as those trumpet, trombone, and saxophone players who wish to be considered for the Jazz Orchestra (advanced group.)  Saxophone, Trumpet, Trombone, Euphonium, and Tuba players who wish to sign up for Jazz Kats may do so without recording an audition.  Be sure to read the Jazz Band Registration Form (linked above) carefully, in advance.  This will help you prepare for auditions/registration.

Auditions include your choice of these components:  Musical Excerpts (link) and/or Improvisation (at the right of this page.)  You may submit your choice of either or both components, in one or two videos.  If you are unable to perform the materials in their entirety, play what you can.  Again, a minimum of only one of those components is required, but you are welcome to submit both.

If you are recording an audition:  Please turn on a metronome in the background of your musical excerpt video.  Recommended tempo is quarter note = 136 or slightly faster.  Improvised recordings should include the backing track at right.

There is a $25 fee for all students who participate in a jazz band.

Note:  There is not a separate audition for vibraphone or auxiliary percussion.  Drum set players will rotate into those roles as appropriate.

Jazz Orchestra will begin rehearsals in November, and Jazz Kats will begin in January.  The calendar is updated to include all jazz events from now through the beginning of winter break.  Beginning in January, the jazz bands will rehearse on Tuesday and Thursday nights, with times TBD depending on the makeup of each group.  The jazz season ends with Normal West Jazz Night on March 14.
